As an artist, I seek to depict the beauty of life’s complexities through a fantastical lens. I see my projects as an opportunity for exploration of emotion, as well as the exploration of realms. I seek to infuse real-world experiences, both lived and observed, into the settings I conjure through my art. My work tends to feature the genres of modern supernatural fantasy, as well as dark fantasy, as I see both having great opportunities to tell complex stories in a fun, beautiful, and intriguing way. This also translates into my character design work as well. The root of many of my illustrative and animated pieces is character psychology. I want my viewers to be able to escape into the minds of my characters and experience the worlds for themselves. Through a combination of dramatic depth with an air of whimsy, I aim to cater to a more mature audience, as well as their inner child.
My portfolio features a variety of different styles and narrative tones, despite them all coming from a similar source of inspiration. For example, my short film How to Fall in Love, is a light-hearted depiction of how I used to view love through a fairytale lens as a child, while simultaneously feeling overwhelmed by social anxiety. I reflected this through a storybook, almost childlike art style with bright colors and cutely designed characters. However, my limited animation short The Leviathan is an example of my dark fantasy work, telling the story of a young woman who must make a deal with an entity to ensure her survival. I chose a more detailed art style with earth tones contrasted with saturated reds and greens to reflect the tone. While my execution of each film was different from the other, both had roots in particular emotions that I found intriguing at the time of their creation, whether it be a solemn decision to evolve oneself through power, or a light-hearted exploration of my childhood mind.
Overall, I hope my work can transport my audience to explore new possibilities and to experience the heart I aim to give each of my characters. In all, my artistic dream is to unite the whimsical heart of the inner child with the depth of experience that comes with the coming of age into adulthood.
